How do I fix my blog posts? I'm getting 404 errors.

If your Knowledge Commons site is showing 404 “Page Not Found” errors when you click on blog posts, the posts likely still exist—but your WordPress permalink settings may need to be refreshed. This issue became more common after WordPress updated to version 6.0.

Fortunately, it’s an easy fix.

How to Fix 404 Errors Caused by Permalinks

  1. Log in to your site’s WordPress Admin Panel (/wp-admin).
  2. In the left-hand menu, click Settings.
  3. Select Permalinks.

You’ll see several permalink structure options (Plain, Day and name, Post name, etc.).

  1. Change the permalink setting to Plain or switch temporarily to a different option if it’s already set to Plain.
  2. Switch the setting back to the permalink structure you prefer.
  3. Click Save Changes again.

Refreshing permalinks in this way rebuilds WordPress’s internal links and resolves the 404 errors.
